The Elk of Elk Springs Ranch
The ranch is located within the range of the South Park elk herd, which is part of the largest concentration of elk in North America. Colorado is home to more elk than any other state, with an estimated population of over 280,000 animals. The South Park region, stretching across the high mountain valleys surrounding Florissant, Lake George, and Fairplay, supports one of the continent's most significant elk populations and provides critical habitat for these iconic animals.
While wildlife sightings can never be guaranteed, elk are among the most frequently observed visitors to the ranch. Watching a herd move gracefully across the landscape is a truly memorable reminder of the wild beauty that makes this corner of Colorado so special.
Wildlife Viewing Tips
-
Early morning and evening are often the best times for sightings.
-
Bring binoculars or a camera with a zoom lens.
-
Always observe wildlife from a safe distance.
-
